Prevent Aging From the Start
People often wonder what the magical age is to start a skincare routine that will prevent aging. But anti-aging treatment can start from the time a person is 6 months old!
6 months is the age at which a baby can start to wear sunscreen.
The use of sunscreen is very important to children and adults alike in order to protect the skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays, which can cause both premature aging as well as skin cancer.
No matter what age you are, starting an anti-aging skincare routine now is going to benefit you in the long run. The sooner the better! And though there are many different skincare products on the market that will help fight aging, there are five other important factors to consider that will help you make the best decisions for your body.
1. Anti-Aging Diet
That’s right. And who would’ve guessed? Your diet plays a huge role in your body’s overall health. Both internal health and external. What you choose to consume will not only impact how you feel, but it will play a big part in your appearance.
If you choose to consume only greasy, unhealthy foods and drinks fueled by sugar and high fructose corn syrup, then that is going to reflect on your skin.
Not only will your skin appear dull and tired, but you may find you are breaking out more frequently.
If your goal is to keep your skin looking young and glowing, then you will need to consume foods that will fight aging such as berries and yogurt.
2. Drink Plenty of Water
Hydration is key to anti-aging. Not only will anti-aging foods improve your skin’s health, but you must be sure to drink enough water on the daily. Cut out the sugary pop and reach for a nice, cold glass of water.
If you must have a flavor added to your glass, cut up a lemon or lime (or even a cucumber!) to keep it healthy. Keeping your skin hydrated is so important when it comes to preventing aging, as our bodies are made up of about 50-65% water!
3. Wear Sunscreen Rain or Shine
Yes. Rain or shine! 365 days a year you need to be slathering on that white cream.
Did you know? The sun is the #1 reason for aging. In fact, our genes (which people have thought to be the #1 reason for aging) only makes up about 20-30% of the reason we age.
The sun’s rays can affect your skin even through the clouds as well as if you are sitting near a window indoors. So, make sure to apply sunscreen after your moisturizer each day to ensure you keep your skin youthful and free of dark spots and wrinkles.
4. Exercise Daily
Internal health is a huge factor in your skin’s overall appearance. To keep your skin youthful and glowing, you must exercise in order to boost and maintain good circulation throughout your body.
You can also boost circulation throughout your face by hanging your head upside down for 2-3 minutes each day.
It might sound silly, but it will help you maintain adequate blood flow to your face, keeping your face young and glowing.
5. Anti-Aging Skincare Routine
This one may be a no-brainer, but it is crucial that you use an anti-aging line that is meant for not only your age but your skin type.
One common mistake I see being made is younger people using products that are too emollient (rich and thick) for their skin. Using such products can actually increase the signs of aging by clogging pores and inducing breakouts.
This can lead to acne scars on the face and hyperpigmentation.
If you are older, you may be using a product or line that is not giving your skin enough of the nutrients that it needs because it is meant for preventing aging instead of reversing aging.
Prevent Aging the Smart Way
No matter what age you are, there is guaranteed to be a product on the market that will fit your needs. You just need to make sure that you are choosing products that are going to work for your skin type as well as your age.
You also need to be aware of choosing products that have many age-fighting ingredients without harmful ingredients such as synthetic dyes and fragrances. These harmful ingredients can cause damage to your skin, thus speeding up the aging process.
It is important for all ages to be mindful of the foods and drinks you are consuming on a daily basis.
Even if you follow an amazing anti-aging skincare routine, you are wasting money and product if you choose to eat like crap and not take care of your body internally. Remember, beauty starts from the inside, so it is very important to care for your internal health just as much as your external!
And be sure to get some form of exercise every day, even if it is just a quick walk that you can squeeze in. The goal is to stay active!
