Summer Beauty Items

You already know the drill.  Sun protection is a daily requirement no matter the season.  And during the summer?  Margaritas are also a daily requirement.  But whether or not you’re sipping on an icy marg at the beach, there are some beauty items you’ll want to have on hand no matter the occasion this season.

Think of these items as your emergency stash in case you’re running late, for quick touch-ups throughout the day, and for traveling.

Keep these summer beauty items in a small travel bag (or an ipsy bag) tucked away in your purse.

Your bag should be easily accessible and contain lightweight products.  The summer heat is quick to melt heavy makeup and can clog pores when mixed with sweat and oils.

These beauty items are great for all skin types to keep on hand during the summer season.

1. Sunscreen

Sunscreen should always be stocked in your beauty bag.

Reapply your sunscreen every two hours throughout the day if you know you’ll be exposed to sunlight.

This means applying it even if you’re inside sitting near a window all day, longing to be outdoors.  The sun’s UVA rays are strong enough to penetrate through glass and still damage your skin.

Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to the back of your hands as needed throughout the day.  Your hands are the first place your skin will show signs of aging, so keep them protected to prevent brown spots and premature wrinkling.

Keep a travel size tube, powder, or spray in your bag to reapply throughout the day

2. Tinted Moisturizer

Tinted moisturizers are great to use in place of heavier foundations during the summer.  They’re lightweight and give you a tint of color to even out your skin tone.  Most of them even have SPF so you know you’re covered while under the beating sun.

Many tinted moisturizers come in about 1 oz. packages, so they’re perfect to fit in your travel beauty bag.

If you want to save some money, make your own by mixing a bit of liquid foundation into your moisturizer.  Package it and store it in your purse.

Keep in mind tinted moisturizers will only give you light coverage, so if you’re wanting to cover a breakout, you may want to use something a bit heavier.  However, a breakout is nothing to be ashamed of and most people deal with them.  You can totally use whatever you feel most comfortable using!

3. Tinted Lip Balm

Tinted lip balms are my go-to most days.  They keep your lips moisturized while giving them a tint of color.

They’re great for when you’re in a rush but need to look like you actually tried.

This summer beauty item is also lightweight so you can enjoy wearing makeup without your skin feeling weighed down.  A win-win!

4. Mascara and Lash Curler

When you’re in a pinch, a little mascara can make all the difference in how you look.  When used with a lash curler, it really opens up your eyes and enhances your features without much effort.  Always curl before applying mascara to avoid damage to your lashes.

Makeup like eyeshadow and eyeliner are more of a pain than anything in the hotter months and will smudge in the heat.   Mascara adds depth to your eyes without all the added weight or greasy feel.

If you’re going swimming, waterproof mascara is a great option to avoid it running down your face.

Keep a tube of mascara and a lash curler in your summer beauty bag for a quick application.

5. Brow Pencil

Unless you’re blessed with thick, defined brows, you may need a little brow-shaping in the morning.  A brow pencil is the best, lightweight option during the summertime.  Simply create hair-like strokes in the places you need it most to keep your brows looking natural but full.

6. Hand Lotion

Hand lotion is a must year-round.

Not only will it hydrate dry hands in the winter, but it’s important to use every time you wash your hands.  Soap dries out your skin, so make sure to apply every time you wash.

Keep a small tube in your beauty bag while you’re out.

7. Breath Mints or Gum

This is another year-round beauty item you’ll want to keep on hand.  No one likes to have bad breath, which is bound to happen if you’re out of the house all day.

These are also great during the workday when you’ll be talking to people after lunch or after sipping your morning coffee.

8. Floss Picks

These are great for beauty emergencies.  You know the ‘you-have-food-stuck-in-your-teeth stare’ kind of emergencies.  You can pick up a pack at your local dollar store.

9. Nail File

I always keep a nail file in the event my nail chips or just looks a little gnarly.  It may not be a big deal normally, but if you find yourself sitting close to someone or showing them yet another dog meme on your phone, you may draw attention straight to the problem.

10. Hydrating Toner or Blotting Papers

Those with dry skin will benefit from a little refreshing spritz throughout the day to boost hydration in the skin.  Keep a travel-size toner in your beauty bag to keep your skin looking dewy all day long.

If you have oily skin, blotting papers are your savior mid-afternoon, when your foreheads looking a little greasy.  This will help control excess oil and keep it from clogging pores.

Keep Yourself Protected and Prepared This Summer

Keeping these summer beauty items in your purse will help you prepare for whatever comes your way.  You won’t have to worry about melting makeup or bad breath and can instead enjoy the sunny warm weather!

  1. Great list! Tinted moisturizer and tinted lip balm are my go to for everyday summer looks. My current fav is the Je ne sais quoi lip balm in Rose from it cosmetics. So many of these items are handbag essentials.
